It has happened so many times before. A curvy young woman wants to become a dancer and either she’s too scared of what people think, so she chooses not to and shies away from a passion or dream that she has inside her heart. Or, she does decide to join and ends up getting made fun of, either face-to-face or over social media over it.
Body shyness is a horrible feeling, but it’s something many girls face whether they’re curvy or skinny. But curvy girls go through a horrible struggle when they want to dance, because a stereotype the world has is that bigger girls can’t dance or bigger girls aren’t beautiful.
This stereotype has hurt girls and women for generations.
So, how can we help these girls? What’s the solution?
Flamenco dancing is a perfect choice for curvy and bigger girls who want to dance. In Flamenco, 80% of the professional dancers are curvy. Plus, doing flamenco dancing will actually build a young girl’s confidence in herself as well as in her body and her abilities. The more she dances and works hard, the more she’ll understand and learn that curvy girls can dance and are beautiful just as much as anyone else. They have the right to strive for their passions too, without having to worry about what other people think. The more they do it and work at it, the more accomplished they will feel. Young, curvy girls will not only start to feel beautiful, but will see, “I can do it too.”
The other way that flamenco dancing is actually perfect for curvy girl who want to join a dance class but are too scared or shy to, is that the purpose of flamenco dancing is to express with their bodies and faces what the singer is telling through their song. Expression their emotions through dance is a wonderful way to show themselves what they’re made of and what they can accomplish if they work at it and give it a chance.
